You’re on a deserted island but luckily you found your three most favorite books, what are they?

Can I choose five? I’d say, as of right here and now, Outer Banks by Anne Rivers Siddons, Gap Creek by Robert Morgan, The Road to Memphis by Mildred D. Taylor, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and Bastard out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison. But if you ask me tomorrow I’d probably throw in a few other books, too.

What phrase/quote would you (or do you!) have tattooed on your body?

I don’t have any tats, but when I read this question, the first thing that popped into my head was the phrase “Just Do It” followed by a Nike swoosh sign. Am I commercial or what?

What contemporary writer excites you the most?

Too many to count, but I do admit I’m biased toward Southern fiction writers. I also have a thing for working-class lit.

What does independent literature mean to you?

When I hear the phrase “independent lit,” I think of quirky, accessible (or sometimes not), underdog lit.

What color is the sky?

Grey.
